NODIRA ISLAM SELECTED FOR WESTERN SYDNEY COMPOSER PLACEMENT

With financial support from Screen NSW and We Love Jam Studios, the Australian Guild of Screen Composers has selected Nodira Islam from Western Sydney to undertake a placement on a new animated series, which is being developed and produced by NSW animation studio, Cheeky Little Media. This attachment is supported by Screen NSW and Nodira will have the opportunity to work with senior composer, Hylton Mowday.

The location for the animated series is based on the Western Sydney suburb of Cabramatta, and the music will be a key ingredient in creating a series that feels authentic, fun and fresh. Hylton and Nodira will work closely with the series’ Western Sydney creator and local Western Sydney musicians to shape the musical palette for the series.

Nodira is a graduate of AFTRS in Screen Music with a Masters in Screen Composing. A lifelong musician and film enthusiast, she is skilled in classical piano performance, film scoring, song writing, music recording and editing. Her multitude of experience ranges from the Uzbek music and film industry, where she has produced numerous notable film soundtracks since 2007 and her recent, composing and orchestrating music scores for Australian short films.

“I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Screen NSW, the Australian Guild of Screen Composers, and We Love Jam Studios for selecting me for the 2024 Composer Placement Attachment” said Nodira after receiving the news that she had been selected.

“Your investment in my growth as a composer fills me with profound appreciation and inspires me to reach new creative heights. Your support is invaluable and the opportunity to work alongside and be mentored by Hylton Mowday presents a remarkable chance for me to acquire valuable experience and deepen my understanding of the Australian Screen Industry.”

“This is a great opportunity for a new screen composer from Western Sydney to get a credit and learn from a great screen composer” said Kingston Anderson, Executive Director of the AGSC. “We thank Screen NSW for their support on this placement and this will continue the great work we are doing to develop and encourage new composers.”

“We are very excited to work with Nodira,” said Hylton Mowday from We Love Jam Studios. “It is important to support and develop a new generation of screen composers from Western Sydney where there is a wealth of talent.”

It’s so essential that we bring on the right talent to produce this very special NSW animated project and we’re absolutely thrilled to have the support of Screen NSW and We Love Jam Studios to invite a highly talented emerging practitioner on the journey with us”, said Celine Goetz, Executive Producer, Cheeky Little Media.

The aim of the placement is to give the new composer experience in the professional composing world of film and television and provide them with a credit to enable them to develop their career as a screen composer. The host music production company is We Love Jam Studios, who are supervising the music composition for the series which is being produced by renowned NSW animation studio, Cheeky Little Media.
